Ear, nose, and throat allergies in children can cause many symptoms, including otitis media, fluid in ear, ear pressure, nasal congestion, seasonal rhinitis, sneezing, cough, sleeping disorders, chronic sinusitis, fatigue, and more.  Unfortunately, the allergies in toddlers are misdiagnosed with multiple conditions.

Children suffering from allergies in the nose usually possess a medical history full of atopy or allergic tendency, like food allergy or asthma. The symptoms of the nose allergy include sneezing, rhinitis, stuffy nose, and nasal rubbing. Allergens such as pollens, fungi, and dust, are the main causes of the nasal allergies in children, therefore, the allergic symptoms become worse in certain intervals during the year.

The allergic rhinitis usually causes
the recurrent obstruction of the nose or chronic nasal congestion, which results in some sleeping disorders like snoring and sleeping apnea. One of the worst symptoms of allergy in children is fatigue, as it can negatively influence the fairness of life as well as the school performance.

The majority of cases of the chronic sinusitis in children are caused due to allergic reactions. Furthermore, recent clinical studies have correlated between the formation of large adenoids and allergy in children.

Pressure in the ear occurs due to the accumulation of fluids in the ear. Cures for pressure in the ear depend mainly on draining the accumulated fluid as well as treating the cause of fluid rely. Generally speaking, a malfunctioning Eustachian tube is the main cause of  fluid pressure in the ears; therefore, antibiotics are usually prescribed for relieving of the ear pressure.

The gram positive bacteria, like streptococcus, haemophlus and moraxella, are the main type of bacteria causing ear infection; fortunately, these types of bacteria are very sensitive to amoxicillin antibiotics. Amoxicillin possesess minimal side effects and it is taken by the oral route, either in the tablet or the liquid forms.

In cases where pressure in the ear is induced by a swelling in the sinus and nasal tissues, then decongestants are the drugs of choice, they are sold OTC. Topical or oral decongestants will cause an immediate relief for the pressure in the ear. The mode of action of such drugs is by shrinking of the nasal and sinus tissues through reducing their blood supply, thus decreasing the swelling. Definitely, this will cause opening of the Eustachian tubes, drainage of the fluids, and relieving of the ear pressure.

Ear tubes are commonly indicated for the treatment of the chronic middle ear infection, especially in  children. This surgical procedure helps in draining the fluid accumulation in the middle ear, and consequently prevents the recurrence of the infection. Ear tubes surgical insertion is a very safe and easy procedure, it takes only a few minutes to be performed, but the main disadvantages are scarring of the eardrums and the permanent eardrum perforation.
