All you want to know about bone conducting hearing aids

There are lots of hearing aids on the market that can make a huge difference when you’re having troubles with hearing. Almost all hearing aids work the same, except for bone conducting hearing aids.  So, let’s take a closer look at how bone conducting hearing aids work!

How bone conducting hearing aids work?

Normal hearing aids take the sound from the outside, amplify it, and send it back to the inner ear. However, bone conducting hearing aids use an oscillator that vibrates against your ear, just like your ear drum would. This makes bone conducting hearing aids unable to reproduce sound as good as conventional hearing aids, the quality of the sound being somewhat similar to the telephone.

Another downfall of bone conducting hearing aids is that the sound isn’t stereo, it is mono. This means that the person wearing it won’t be able to tell the source of the sound.  Topping it off, these hearing aids are kept in place with a headband which makes them quite uncomfortable.

Should you choose bone conducting hearing aids over conventional hearing aids?

Not really, but, you should keep in mind that bone conducting hearing aids are suited for people who can’t use conventional hearing aids. For example, if a person would have Atresia, a conventional hearing aid wouldn’t work.  The same applies for persons who have ear infections or eczema, or have a restricted or narrower than normal ear canal.  At the same time, bone conducting hearing aids are great for children who have trouble hearing, as well for people with temporary hearing loss.
