Cures for Pressure in Ear

Cures for Pressure in Ear

Pressure in the ear occurs due to the accumulation of fluids in the ear. Cures for pressure in the ear depend mainly on draining the accumulated fluid as well as treating the cause of fluid rely. Generally speaking, a malfunctioning Eustachian tube is the main cause of  fluid pressure in the ears; therefore, antibiotics are usually prescribed for relieving of the ear pressure.

The gram positive bacteria, like streptococcus, haemophlus and moraxella, are the main type of bacteria causing ear infection; fortunately, these types of bacteria are very sensitive to amoxicillin antibiotics. Amoxicillin possesess minimal side effects and it is taken by the oral route, either in the tablet or the liquid forms.

In cases where pressure in the ear is induced by a swelling in the sinus and nasal tissues, then decongestants are the drugs of choice, they are sold OTC. Topical or oral decongestants will cause an immediate relief for the pressure in the ear. The mode of action of such drugs is by shrinking of the nasal and sinus tissues through reducing their blood supply, thus decreasing the swelling. Definitely, this will cause opening of the Eustachian tubes, drainage of the fluids, and relieving of the ear pressure.

Ear tubes are commonly indicated for the treatment of the chronic middle ear infection, especially in  children. This surgical procedure helps in draining the fluid accumulation in the middle ear, and consequently prevents the recurrence of the infection. Ear tubes surgical insertion is a very safe and easy procedure, it takes only a few minutes to be performed, but the main disadvantages are scarring of the eardrums and the permanent eardrum perforation.

Ear Infection: causes, symptoms and treatment

Ear Infection: causes, symptoms and treatment

Ear infection can occur to anyone, but unfortunately it occurs mostly in infants and young children. This type of infection is very common in outer ear “otitis externa” and in middle ear “otitis media”. It is usually accompanied with pain (earaches) and unpleasant feeling, furthermore, main complication of a chronic ear infection is the partial loss of hearing, due to accumulation of mucous and fluid within the ear tube.

Ear infection occurs as a result of bacterial, fungal or viral invasion of the ear tissues, this invasion happens due to many reasons ranging from accumulation of mucous, especially after exposure to common cold, allergy, sore throat, or in cases of applying a non-sterile foreign object or material into the ear. Sharing hearing aids and earnings or spending prolonged periods in unclean swimming pools, increase massively the susceptibility of acquiring ear infections.

Earaches (pain), raised temperature, feeling unwell, nausea, gagging, and vomiting are most common symptoms of an ear infection. Usually this condition subsides within a few days, but if
symptoms like continuous high temperature, sharp pain, or presence of discharge (blood or pus) occur, then medical interference is a mandatory.

Inflammation and swelling (due to accumulation of pus or fluid inside the ear) in untreated cases of the ear infection can lead to perforation of the ear drum causing permanent loss of hearing.

Antibiotics and analgesics (painkillers) are usually enough to treat an ear infection.
