Ear wax and ringing in the ear – are they related

What is that annoying ringing in the ear?

The annoying ringing in the ear or that whistling or popping sound that you hear sometimes is medically referred to as tinnitus.  This condition has a great deal of causes, but the most common cause is prolonged exposure to powerful noises; the second common cause is ear or head trauma. However, there’s another cause that can also lead to tinnitus: ear wax!

What is ear wax and how can it cause tinnitus?

Because the ear canal is very delicate, ear wax is used by our body to protect its insides. Even if earwax is a natural body secretion, it can build up, and this can lead, as already said, to a number of unpleasant effects, including that ringing in the ear that can be quite annoying and disturbing.  That’s why, it’s important to periodically clean your ears.

When you fail to do that, then the naturally soft earwax can become compacted, and it will block the ear canal which means that it will block any exterior sounds from reaching the interior of the ears, which causes that annoying ringing in the ear.

How can you get rid of earwax?

There are a number of options for getting rid of earwax buildups. The most frequently used solution is hydrogen peroxide that you can purchase from your local pharmacy.

All you need to do is to put a bit of hydrogen peroxide in your ears (one at the time) and wait for it to break the earwax – you know it’s working when you feel it bubbling.

Another alternative is baking soda – mix it with water and use it just like the hydrogen peroxide solution and you’ll get rid of the unwanted earwax buildups.

To prevent earwax buildups, always make sure that you clean your ears periodically – this way, you’ll be safe and sound from any annoying ringing in the ear!
